Manny Pacquiao: Guilty of Sports Bigamy!!!

Media_http3bpblogspotcombawetawt3visghwhvwpsiaaaaaaaagnosurzomwdis400mpacquiaobostoncelticsjpg_jkhqbgdgdwiaekc

HEY! Manny Pacquiao was a Celtics fan last year... this year he is a Lakers Fan???

He is what my main man Bill Simmons refers to as a 'sports bigamist'... please read the formerly unwritten rules of being a sports fan.

To just switch teams is bad enough.... but from Celtic Green to Laker Gold??? Unheard of...but understandable!

Well, I'm sure after shooting the commercial with Kobe in L.A. recently, where he also trains and owns a home, he should have converted to being a Laker fan.

While waiting for the Kobe/Pacquiao commercial, look back to this one where Pacquaio was just a 'bit' player among the athletes. Click here.

Kobe Coming To My 'Hood

The man who stands as godfather to my firstborn (unbeknownst to him) is coming to Manila for the 3rd time this July 21.

(Photos posted above were taken in Beijing, just 2 months before Kobe became the hero for the U.S. Basketball squad in the Olympics)

The Ultimate Achievement

Nba_g_kobepostgm2_576

Ultimately, what I would like to achieve with this blog is to become one of the important voices of my generation. Indeed, a lofty ambition, but with the power of the internet and its unlimited potential, one that is attainable.

We live in a very exciting and hopeful time where an individual like me can express his views and opinions  without having to go through traditional media outlets, which are more often than not biased and manipulate news and information to conform to their agenda.

And yet, here I am... an ordinary 34-year old man with no particular place or rank in society, no prominent last name, no power and influence outside of my own home (and even that is debatable)... having a platform in which potentially millions can read my every thought and hopefully be inspired by them.

Yes, I currently only write about my passion for sports... those who know me well know that I am a huge fan and follower of my favorite NBA team, the L.A. Lakers. I also write about my own personal experiences in different sports and here-and-there adventures. And I do post a lot of pictures (with requisite witty captions) of my family on my favorite social networking site.

But my other passion is country...my one and only home, the Philippines. And I'd like to be able to help shape the future of this country and the generations to follow through positive thoughts and subsequent action.

A blog is just an online journal, a personal diary on public display. But never before has it had the power to transform ideals in an instant like lightning in a bottle. The time is now, more critical than ever.

This is my ultimate goal. And it can be achieved. One click at a time.

"Love (& Championships) Is In The Air... A Laker Bromance"

So, what now fellow Laker fans???

What's to keep us occupied till the start of the next NBA season, when our beloved team defends its championship???

Here are a few suggestions:

1) Watch a movie in the ULTRA 7 theater in the new Eastwood mall... the recliners are as comfy as hell (or heaven, I suppose)... not a bad seat in the house because of them

2) Go to the Great Mall of Asia and catch a sunset, before or after shopping. Nothing beats an afternoon of retail therapy and watching the sun go down all in one place.

3) Play Scrabble at your favorite coffee house. Just something I do to pass the time with my family on occasion. Nerdy but nice.

4) Bring your toddler to Fully Booked or Powerbooks. It's never too late to instill a love of books in them. Watching your child sit down with a book and not throw tantrums: Priceless.

5) Exercise. Any kind. As long as you enjoy it...just keep moving. Will add quality years to your life. Promise.

Why ****thejoefloshow**** is such a Laker Fan?

Okay, it's halftime of Game 4 NBA Finals... take a breather...

Go Lakers!!!!!

I know they can still pull this off... it's only a 5pt deficit... but let me just share why I am such a Laker Fanatic:

  • AS A YOUNG LAD, I GOT TO WATCH MAGIC, KAREEM, et.al. AT THE FORUM IN INGLEWOOD (This would shape the sports fan in me all the way to adulthood)
  • I LIVED IN L.A. FOR 6 YEARS (That automatically makes you a Laker fan... you only choose to be a Clipper fan if you're a masochist)
  • FLYING THE PURPLE & GOLD BANNER (It's only this team that can make these two colors together bearable... makes you feel like royalty when sporting their gear)
  • BETTER THAN ANY DRAMA ON TV & MOVIES (The entertainment value derived from following this team is better than any reality tv program out there)
  • KOBE (A once-in-a-generation player...'nuff said!!!)

The Try Guy*

FINALLY! After so many years of wanting to join -and finish- a triathlon, I did it!

But not without the requisite failures and learning experiences that come along with it..

Here I am starting off the swimming leg in strong fashion.

After leading the 2nd wave of triathletes in the swim...

... it was off to the bike leg, where trouble awaited me:

after 1km, the bike pedal broke off.. so I had to walk/jog/freewheel for 11km... here I am waddling into the transition to the run:

Due to the mechanical breakdown, it was a bottom-of-the-barrel finish for me. It was a lesson in humility and i will never forget this experience.

Ever!

I Ran To The Skyway, My Way..

Condurarun1

Well, I did it.

I never pictured myself as a 'runner'.

yet, here I was sweating it out for 21km and looking like a monkey-man just to finish...

.. never in my wildest dreams. (and I've had a lot of wild dreams, hahaha)

MY 5 THOUGHTS ABOUT THE CONDURA 21K RUN

5) Needed to challenge myself physically and mentally like I'd never done before

4) Like everyone else who joined, I wanted to run on the SkyWay... that's just too cool to pass up.

3) Wanted to be healthy and lower my blood pressure.. and instead flirted with dehydration and heatstroke

2) Didn't aim to win, just wanted to finish alive with my feet intact and still attached to my body

1) How many times have you been on the SkyWay and not have to pay a toll fee? Exactly.
